Welcome to the WASTELESS Training Programme!
While hunger is one of the world’s most important health risks, approximately one third of food produced at the global level is wasted every year (1.3bn tonnes) with tremendous negative impacts on society, the environment, and the economy.
The WASTELESS project has developed an interactive training programme to raise awareness and provide solution to reduce food loss and waste along the food supply chain.
WASTELESS training WORKSHOP series showcase the innovative tools developed to measure, monitor, and manage food loss and waste across the entire food supply chain and it is dedicated to FLW Researchers.
The Training consists of 5 workshops, one for each tool:
- Electronic Registry supported by a Blockchain System. This tool provides transparent, real-time information on product origin, expiration dates, and storage conditions. It supports food industries, food services, retailers, and households in reducing waste through improved inventory management and faster responses to spoilage risks.
- AI-based Data Driven approach for Food Waste Management. Designed for food retailers, this solution helps reduce surplus, improve operational efficiency, ensure product availability, and lower costs.
- Surplus Measurement and Management. This tool enables food industries, food services, and retailers to identify waste at source, recover surplus with the highest potential value, and improve procurement and operational planning.
- Computer Vision-based Image Analysis for Household Food Decay Detection. An early-stage solution that applies image analysis to measure food decay based on colour changes, helping households monitor food quality.
- Household Automatic System for Food Waste Assessment. A system designed to simplify data collection and analysis for households, supporting more effective food waste management.
Each session featured detailed presentations by the tool developers, who provided in-depth explanations of the tools’ functionalities and capabilities. Participants engaged in hands-on activities, allowing them to test the tools directly and provide valuable feedback on their usability, level of innovation, and scalability.
Learning outcomes:
These workshops provide a unique opportunity to discover cutting-edge solutions, exchange knowledge with stakeholders across the food chain, and contribute to shaping tools that can make a significant impact in reducing food waste.
- Learn directly from tool developers through live demonstrations
- Hear insights from stakeholders already applying the tools in practice
- Engage in interactive Q&A sessions and practical exercises
- Provide valuable feedback on the usability and applicability of the tools
